Appraisals are used to clarify the value of personal property and are typically either fair market value or replacement value appraisals.

“fair market value” – what something will sell for in a open market, like an auction.

“replacement value” – typically used in insurance situations to determine the value of one item that would need to be replaced with the same or similar item.
